The BulletTrain eXpress was born out of the desire to create the most ergonomic Desktop, Laptop, iOS and Home Theater keyboard. At BulletTrain, we discovered long ago that the ultimate desktop keyboard just happens to be a laptop keyboard, which puts the trackpad front and center while comforably supporting your palms and wrists.
With the new eXpress we’ve taken that discovery to the next level. The New eXpress has been designed to deliver the BulletTrain experience in a lighter, sleeker, more stylish, and even more affordable package.
Subtle changes to the shape of the new eXpress improve usability while increasing performance and tactile feedback. The Magic Trackpad sits lower in the platform and is no longer flush with the wrist-wrest, reducing erroneous taps and clicks while providing a non-visual way to find the Trackpad.
A flat bottom, with low-profile feet makes the new eXpress even more lap-friendly. The new flat bottom, coupled with a new wall-hanging design allows the eXpress to hang on round or flat-head screws or nails. These changes speak to BulletTrain's philosophy of purpose-driven design. Every one of these little changes combines to make the whole product more functional.
The new eXpress features an innovative method of attaching the keyboard and trackpad into place by gripping their battery compartments. We designed a clip-in, “C-Channel“ system which holds snug, yet allows the Apple Magic Trackpad and Keyboard to be easily removed for changing batteries. This new system completely eliminates the need to attach anything to your devices and the power buttons of both the Trackpad and Keyboard are now even easier to access.
Every single detail in the all-new BulletTrain eXpress Keyboard Platform has been thought through very carefully. We experimented like crazy to find the ultimate materials to use. Our objective was to develop a material that had all the benefits of aluminum without any of the drawbacks.
We also developed our own proprietary metalic paint process which uses a 3-step UV method to cure the paint over the bead-blasted finish. This results in super-rich metallic colors that not look just like anodized aluminum, but are much more durable and scratch resistant.
We designed the all-new eXpress so the Apple trackpad perfectly maintains its tactile feedback, so you can press-down on the trackpad to engage it. We also designed it so if you plan to travel with your eXpress or just want to turn it on, or off, you have easy access to both power buttons, without ever having to remove the trackpad or keyboard.
The all-new eXpress has a specially designed chassis which is backset from the left and right edges and tappered to make it extremely lap-friendly. It also has extremely low-profile feet which significantly contribute to it being able to sit comfortably on you lap.
We developed a proprietary blend of glass-reinforced polycarbonate which is very strong while remaining very light. This way, our platform is remarkably sturdy, lightweight, and most importantly, unlike aluminum it does not get cold–or warm, and always remains comfortable to the touch.
The all-new express is feather-light and only weighs 1.1 pounds (.5 kg). With the Apple Wireless Keyboard and trackpad (both with batteries, it only weighs 2.2 pounds (1 kg), which is lighter than an 11inch Apple Macbook Air–the smallest and lightest laptop made by Apple.
The all-new eXpress is not only a Zen-garden-like, Minamalist Masterpiece, but it's remarkably compact while remaing extremely useful. It is not only the King Of Keyboards, but provides the end-user with a truly remarkable and beautiful piece of UD (Universal Design).
The all-new BulletTrain eXpress Keyboard Platform is 13.0625 inches wide (33.5 cm), and 9.75 inches deep (24.8 cm) from front edge to rear edge. For comparison sake, the 13-inch Apple Macbook Pro keyboard is 12.78 inches wide (32.5 cm), with a depth of 8.94 inches (22.7 cm). This makes the BulletTrain eXpress Keyboard Platform about a quarter inch wider in width than a 13 inch Macbook Pro keyboard, and about .75 inches deeper.
It has a built-in slant angle, which, with the Apple keyboard in place is 1.2 inches (3 cm) tall in the back and less less than 3/4 of an inch tall (1.9 cm) on its front edge. This slant angle makes using the eXpress extremely comfortable on any desktop, on your lap, or even while standing with the eXpress in your hands.
